About

The Philosophy Behind Endurance Consulting

I named this practice Endurance Consulting because the best technology decisions are the ones that endure: architectures that scale, platforms that fail safely, and strategies that stay coherent as requirements shift.

Too many organizations rush into technology choices driven by vendor hype or short-term thinking. I help you slow down enough to make the right call, then move fast with confidence.

Background

Over the past decade I’ve worked at the intersection of deep technical implementation and platform strategy, building systems and proving they work in production:

  • Senior Solutions Architect at Groundcover (2025–Present): Company-wide subject-matter expert on OpenTelemetry. I build production-grade OpenLLMetry instrumentation for GenAI observability and lead the technical proof-of-concept work for distributed tracing across the customer base, including forward-deployed engagements inside a Fortune 10 company’s Applied Machine Learning teams.
  • Field CTO & Practice Director at Trace3 (2022–2025): Stood up national observability and platform engineering practices from zero. Architected Cloud Center of Excellence labs: EKS with Karpenter autoscaling, GitOps self-service on Harness.io, CrossPlane + Terraform for platform extensibility, a full DevSecOps stack (OPA, Vault, Snyk, Wiz, Sysdig), and OpenTelemetry golden pathways for instrumentation. Delivered resilience assessments, observability rationalizations, and a major CrossPlane implementation for Fortune 50 pharma, semiconductor, and software customers.
  • Chief Technologist at Morpheus Data (2017–2021): Employee #6 through the eventual HPE acquisition. Implementation lead for a Tier 1 US carrier’s complete bare-metal cloud offering and architect of a managed-service platform for a major APAC telco. Personally delivered 36+ complex hybrid-cloud implementations and built integration tooling in Python, Go, Groovy, and Ansible.
  • Earlier: Built a production Spark-on-Hadoop document-classification system (Apache Tika + Tesseract OCR, Spark MLlib in Scala, NiFi, Hive) from scratch in five weeks; employee #2 at Acyclica (acquired by FLIR); independent technical consultant across full-stack and data engineering.

I’ve been brought in to work hands-on inside Fortune 10 technology companies, Fortune 50 pharma, Fortune 500 semiconductor and financial services firms, global SaaS platforms, and major telcos, usually when the architecture is hard, the stakes are high, and someone needs to both set direction and prove the concept works.

Education & Certifications

  • MIT Professional Education – Graduate Certificate, Applied Generative AI for Digital Transformation (2023)
  • Colorado State University – M.S. Computer Science (Architecture, Databases, Fault Tolerance, Networking)
  • University of Colorado Boulder – B.A., Philosophy & Mathematics
  • CNCF Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)

Why Fractional?

I’ve spent my career in high-intensity, high-stakes environments where the technology decisions I influenced were worth millions. Now I want to make that same level of strategic and technical guidance available to organizations that don’t need, or can’t afford, a full-time executive.

Fractional engagements let you:

  • Access Field CTO-level expertise without the executive salary and equity
  • Scale up or down based on project needs and budget cycles
  • Get unbiased guidance from someone who doesn’t have a product to sell
  • Tap into 10+ years of pattern-matching across dozens of enterprises

How I Work

I don’t write long reports that sit on a shelf. I deliver outcomes:

  • Architecture Decision Records: Capturing the why behind each decision, so future teams understand the constraints and tradeoffs
  • Working Sessions: Whiteboarding with your team, reviewing pull requests, pairing on tough problems
  • Executive Translation: Turning technical complexity into business risk and opportunity language stakeholders understand
  • Build vs. Buy Analysis: Honest assessment of when to build, when to buy, and when to walk away

If you need someone who can operate at the CTO level and also open a terminal to prove the concept works, let’s talk.

Current Availability

I’m engaged with Fryeburg Academy on AI enablement and working with Groundcover as Senior Solutions Architect. I have capacity for 1-2 additional fractional engagements starting in Q3 2026.

Ideal engagement types:

  • Fractional CTO / VP Engineering (10-20 hours/month)
  • Architecture assessments and platform design sprints (project-based)
  • Observability and platform engineering consulting (ongoing or project)
  • AI strategy and practical implementation guidance (especially for non-tech orgs)
